Abstract

It was determined the effect in vivo of 14 ectoparasiticides over the mortality of the full tick (TIPIC), the ovipositing (TIPOV) and products of larvas of B. microplus (TIPHL) in three dairy ecosystems in Chiriqui: Bugaba Bajo (BB), Bugaba Medio (BM) and Gualaca (G). In each ecosystem, 450 full ticks were collected from different dairy herds. At random, 45 groups of 10 full ticks each were formed and submerged about a minute with 10 cc of the solution recommended by the manufacturers of each Ixodicide and three groups of 10 full ticks were submerged in the same conditions with pure water. At 24 hours post-treatment, it was determined the number of dead ticks; 15 days after, the process of oviposition was determined, and inmediately 100 eggs of each replica (15 x 3) were separated; and 45 days later it was determined the number of infested larvas. The results were analysed through a design of divided plots with three repetitions. It was observed that the interaction treatment-ecosystem and the simple effects of the ecosystem and treatment resulted highly significant (P<0.01) for the variables TIPIC, TIPOV and TIPHL, showing that the ectoparasiticides presented a variable behavior inside and between each system. About the TIPIC, the products of major activity were Bayticol, Grenade, Paredon, Ectomin and Butox; and for TPOV, Bayticol and Paredon, while for TIPHL the major activity was found in Bayticol, Garraphin, Paredon, Grenade and Asuntol. It is concluded that exists variability in the activity of the ectoparasiticides in the three dairy ecosystems as for the lethiferous oviposition and the production of larvas of B. microplus
