Abstract

In order to select new cultivates of tomato for high performance and quality, were installed trials during the years 2000 and 2001, under the system of vegetation house in three localities: San Ramon, Alto Quiel and Volcancito; in Boquete, province of Chiriqui. In San Ramon was used a design of RCBD with three repetitions and 10 cultivates of tomato. In Alto Quiel and Volcancito were evaluated 14 cultivates, using a Split Plot Design in a RCBD with three repetitions. The variance analysis in both evaluation years showed meaningful differences (P<0.05) between the cultivates for commercial total yield and highly meaningful (P<0.01), for the 3x3 tomato yield. In 2000 in the locality of San Ramon, all the cultivates presented high performance in total commercial, surpassing the national average of 39 t/ha; while those of greater yield 3x3 were Antilla (68.41t/ha), Amanda (29.03 t/ha), Jenna (34.73 t/ha) and Pernod (27.86 t/ha) that surpassed 20 t/ha. In 2001, in the localities of Alto Quiel and Volcancito all the cultivates presented total commercial yields above the national average 39 t/ha. The variance analysis between localities showed differences highly meaningful (P<0.01) between the cultivates in the total yield and in the 3x3 tomato yield. The cultivates that they presented that surpassed 20 t/ha of 3x3 tomato were 1012 (59.22 t/ha), followed by Antilla (53.15 t/ha), 1013 (43.33 t/ha) and Cronos (32.25 t/ha). In Volcancito the average of the cultivates was superior to the produced in Alto Quiel; however, the results indicate that exist promissory materials depart both localities. Each locality presents one or two promissory cultivates that can be validated.
